Osher Lecture: Being Mortal: Documentary and Q&A

"Death is something we will all one day face. So why is it so hard for doctors to talk with their patients about dying? How can the medical profession better help people navigate the final chapters of their lives with confidence, direction and purpose?" - PBS Frontline Surgeon Atul Gawande, author of Being Mortal, collaborated with Frontline for this documentary on the relationships between doctors and patients nearing the end of life. Genie Shields and Dr. Kathryn Kirkland will answer questions following the film. Genie and her late husband Jeff graciously participated in the making of the documentary. She is an author and Life Member at Clare Hall, Cambridge University. Dr. Kirkland is section chief of palliative medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and holds the Dorothy and John J. Byrne, Jr., Distinguished Chair in Palliative Medicine at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine. Please park at the Main Entrance to attend this event. To reach Auditorium H from the Rotunda (Reception/Information Desk at the Main Entrance) and the Level 3 Elevator: Facing the Main Rotunda Info Desk, turn right & continue down the South Mall and into the Williamson Foyer. Auditorium H will be to your right.
